This is a game idea from 1997, created during a time of playing on self-organized LAN-parties and modding for Quake 1.
Description:
On team of dungeon keepers builds and defends their dungeon while another team of adventurers tries to rob their treasures.
The dungeon keeper group of players manages a dungeon. It decides which blocks to tunnel, which structures and traps to build and which creatures to place in a build up phase.
Meanwhile another group of players fights its way through the map-specific monster filled way toward the dungeon entrance. Some creatures drop gold or new armor, weapons or ammo (fitting the creature type!). Chests can provide gold or gear. When the adventurers reach the dungeon entrance, it is time for the dungeon keepers to defend their treasure chamber. This is done by taking control of the various creatures to attack the tough adventurers. Each creature has a custom view ans special abilities. ( I.e. the fiend has a reddened filter on everything and other creatures an adventurers spawn particles to symbolize scent trails. FOV is wide. , The shambler has a small FOV, … ) Uncontrolled creatures use standard KI. Some creature types act in groups and follow their leader around. Creatures and adventurers gather XP and are automatically upgraded (faster, tougher, … -> Fiend-a-Gotchi).
Visual:
Visual style is similar to the Quake 1 style with a slight shift toward a medieval theme. Textures and creatures are reused from Quake 1.
Tech:
Base engine is Quake 1. Extensions like walls or gates are BSP objects that can be placed freely and are fully physical. Tunnels are BSP blocks of rock that can be removed by digging. (BSP objects are what is used for doors and elevators in Quake 1). A basic layout of the dungeon is given by the base maps. Rock cliffs with tunnels and other occluders keep the maps renderable. The dungeon configuration for a given team can be saved and is loaded when the team plays dungeon keeper again.
